Covid 19 (Coronavirus)

Phase 3 easing of restrictions

In line with Phase 3 easing of restrictions the practice will be open for routine appointments from 0900 Monday 13th of July. There are still however restrictions on Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGP’s) in place which will restrict the range of treatments available for the next few weeks. The good news is that we will be able to carry out examinations along with other routine treatments and of course dental emergencies. Unfortunately there will have to be some rearrangement of existing appointments during this time as it will be necessary to allow extra time for cleaning etc. and to maintain distancing, which we’re sure that you all understand. The guidelines for attendance which we introduced for the start of Phase 2, 3 weeks ago will still be in place which in essence will avoid patients coming into contact with each other and minimise unnecessary contact with surfaces. Most importantly, please do not attend without having made an appointment by telephone as this gives us the opportunity to carry out a Covid-19 triage before-hand and therefore determine if it is safe for you to attend. For more detailed guidance on attendance please follow this link. Please note that if an AGP is required, and cannot be delayed, we can make arrangements for you to be treated by members of our team.

Phase 2 Easing of Lockdown (Published 21 June 2020)

Further to the 1st Minister's announcement, we are aiming to open be to treat urgent cases on Tuesday 23rd June. Please note this for URGENT / DENTAL EMERGECY CASES ONLY and anyone requiring this service must telephone to make an appointment beforehand (01387 254100). Please DO NOT TURN UP WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. We are doing this to ensure that patients are all triaged before setting foot in the building. We also ask that, on arrival, that you wait outside until a member of staff invites you in.
For more detailed instructions on our procedure during Phase 2 please look through our Guidance for appointments.
We will be open for telephone enquiries on Monday 22 June.
It is likely that Phase 3 easing in 3 weeks time will allow us to start routine appointments for examinations etc.

Phase 2 easing of Covid -19 Lockdown (Published 10 June 2020)

The First Minister is expected to announce the next stage of the easing of Lockdown in Scotland (Phase 2) on the 18th of June 2020. This will mean that dental teams will be able provide urgent dental care in their own practices. At Hazelbrook Dental Practice we are preparing for this and hope to be able to provide some urgent dental care ourselves soon after that date.
Obviously things will be a bit different initially as we will have to take serious steps to minimise the risk of transmission of the Corona Virus. These will include staff wearing enhanced PPE, extra vigilance with respect to decontamination of sufaces, reduced access to the building and appropriate social distancing. For greater details of these measures please refer to our  Guidance notes for appointments, particularly if you will be attending over the next few weeks.

Update on Reopening of Hazelbrook Dental Practice post Covid-19 Lockdown (Published 29 May 2020)

At the moment we have not been given a firm date by the Scottish Government regarding being allowed to reopen our practice. The Chief Dental Officer made a statement last week and it is expected that as part of phase 2 of lockdown relaxation dental practices will be able to carry out urgent treatment for their patients in their own practices by 31 July. Limited routine treatment, such as examinations, being allowed shortly after (subject to availability of PPE).

It has just been announced that dental practices in England have been given the go ahead to re-open on the 8th of June. Given that the easing of lockdown measures in Scotland has been following those in England by about 2 weeks, it is possible that we will return much earlier.

Meanwhile the range of emergency treatments carried out at the Urgent Dental Care Centres(UDCC) will be increased. In Dumfries the UDDC is the Dumfries Dental Centre at Moutainhall. If you have a dental problem you should contact the practice and if necessary we can arrange a referral to the UDDC. Please note that it is not permissible to go direct to the UDCC as initial triaging must be done by your own practice.

It is worth noting that our two Dentists Richard Colbeck and Fiona Lilburn are both taking turns in providing the emergency service at the UDCC along with a number of colleagues from other dental practices in the area.
